A collection of color rich table-like vitrines is constructed for the multi-media exhibition, Print Ready Drawings, curated by historian Sarah Hearne, at the MAK Center’s Schindler House. The exhibition, which is an investigation of the technical and social history of graphic media in architecture, brings together a collection of primary and secondary sources in print and film media. Organized thematically room by room in the Schindler House, the material of media reproduction creates an intimacy and tactile immediacy within the exhibition. The system of display is a series of adjustable, modular tables that hinge open and closed, accommodating the material layers of the research. The table design explores the graphic effect of wood assembly, echoing the earnest construction of the Schindler house, with its tilt up concrete walls, and post and beam ceiling. A careful study of color and tone is managed through the use of wood Danish oil stains creating a dialogue with the gentle tones of the historic interior.
