A custom textile and curtain assembly is produced for the Garage Exchange program at the Mackey Apartments, MAK Center in Los Angeles. The curtain is made of two layers, forming an inside and an outside—like a small, soft room. For the exterior, thin and fit, we use a highly reflective silver fabric and tailored it with vertical tab seams. In contrast, the interior is a jacquard-woven tapestry of hedges, textured, heavy, and voluminous. The woven interior is made purposefully too long and fashioned with buttons, weights, and pulleys so the excess can be gathered and cinched. In designing the textile, we foraged plant clippings from neighbors’ hedges. This collection was then sorted, measured, photographed, and processed into a densely packed, one-to-one, digitally woven hedge.
Work exhibited alongside artists Hanakam and Schuller.
