Current Interests is a Los Angeles based architectural design studio founded by Matthew Au and Mira Henry. Our practice is grounded in a joy for material specificity, color relationships, assembly details, and an engagement in critical cultural thinking.

Established in 2017, our studio draws on the deep and particular knowledge each of us brings to the collaboration. Over the last decade, we have designed and constructed a wide range of complex building programs, including residential, commercial, exhibition design, and public cultural projects. Together we seek meaningful relationships with clients, and to work towards aesthetically nuanced projects of all scales.

Mira Henry is the co-principal of Current Interests. Her professional expertise is in the design and project management of residential construction and detailing, and in retail and restaurant interiors. In addition, she has collaborated on large-scale building programs including an urban branch library and a corporate hotel.

Mira is design faculty at Southern California Institute for Architecture, where she coordinates undergraduate design studios and the DID summer program for local youth. Her formal research and writing focus on architecture, race, and materiality. She is the recipient of the 2019 Architectural League Prize, Henry Adams AIA Award, and Archiprix International Gold Medal. She has participated in numerous symposia, lectures, exhibitions, and reviews at institutions nationwide, including Harvard, Yale, and Princeton Universities. Prior to teaching and forming her own practice, Mira worked as a lead designer and project manager for Talbot McLanahan Architecture, Office dA, and Monica Ponce de Leon Studio in New York. Mira holds a Bachelor in Art History from the University of Chicago and a Master of Architecture from UCLA.

Matthew Au is the co-principal of Current Interests. His professional expertise is in design with an emphasis on fabrication, custom software development, complex building systems, and architectural installations. Matthew’s projects include exhibition design, interactive media, façade systems, and large-scale installations located in sites such as an international airport and a public university.

Matthew is design faculty at Southern California Institute for Architecture. Influenced by the history of conceptual art practice, Matthew’s academic work examines the spaces and tools of production, and the lines of communication that connect the worlds of design and building. His current work focuses on the construction of technical images. Prior to starting Current Interests, Matthew worked as a designer for Zago Architecture, Michael Maltzan Architecture, and Fritz Haeg Studio. He holds a Bachelor in Studio Art and Art History from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master of Architecture from Southern California Institute of Architecture.
